Research-Based Education

Local tools

Our graduate programs are strongly research-oriented. Each new student is accepted to work within a specific research team, which is affiliated with one or more of the four areas of research specialization in the department: Behavioural Neuroscience, Clinical and Health Research, Cognitive Science, and Human Development and Developmental Processes. Students enroll in research seminars and coursework organized around each area of specialization. Each area includes a broad range of psychologists' activities with respect to the problem, from pure research to applications.

Programs of individual students vary in the relative emphasis on basic and applied research. Graduate training at Concordia has two unique features: its selection of areas of research specialization and the availability of clinical training regardless of research specialization area. For example students in the research and clinical training option may conduct laboratory-based research with animals, and students in the research option may study applied social problems.
